News Below:

Please could you monitor the BCU Marathon website closely over Friday/Saturday 11/12th for details of whether the Pangbourne Marathon is able to take place due to the weather/river conditions.

The organisers have been observing river conditions and they have been in contact with the local lock keeper and will be in touch with him again and with the EA on Friday morning.  Whitchurch Lock has now gone to Yellow Boards.

Hopefully if no significant rain falls on Friday we might be OK to race on Sunday, and they are discussing contingency plans but if heavier rainfall occurs Red Boards could be up by end of Friday.  A decision will be made by 4pm Friday 11 July and posted on the BCU Marathon website .

Southampton Canoe Club took part in the Oxford Hasler marathon at the weekend with competitors taking part in races of 4/8/12 miles along the River Thames.  The Hasler Series involves a number of marathon races held in the Southern region with the top four clubs competing in the September National Hasler Finals in Burton on Trent.

Oxford saw Southampton paddlers dominating a number of  top places.   There were 1st places for Phil Pearse (Division 2), Leon Nicholson and Ferran Revilla (Division 4/5/6 K2), Sam Willis (Division 4) Sarah Millest (Division 6) leading to a promotion to Division 5, Tom Diaper (Division 7) also promoted to Division 6.  Rick Kent came 3rd (Division 2), Steve Willis and Steve Rance 2nd (Division 4/5/6 K2) and Richard Gilbert-Johns and Caroline Barnes 3rd (Division 7 K2).

The junior squad also perfomed well with Joe Tebbutt 2nd (U10), Sophie Gilbert-Johns 3rd (U12 girls) and Max Evans 3rd (U12 boys).

With only one more race to earn Hasler points Southampton Canoe Club are well on their way to finishing in the top 4 teams and competing against the other regional top canoe clubs in the United Kingdom.
